Splinter Cell: Conviction A dangerous, brutal predator ?
Source: 1Up.com What's the game about? A dangerous, brutal predator ? that's how the folks behind Splinter Cell: Conviction describe their protagonist, Sam Fisher. Now, the adept stealth spy is equally formidable in the strength department, and the game may transcend its stealth roots and become a popcorn blockbuster. Enraged by his daughter's murder and determined to find her killer, Fisher has gone rogue, armed with no more than his brains and a personal arsenal of powerful hand-to-hand attacks that would make Jason Bourne blush. What's new for E3? Splinter Cell: Conviction has snagged a few hurdles along its development process, but approaching the finish line it looks all the stronger from the troubles, particularly its narrative. The Bourne comparison's apt, not just for the rapid paced combat, but the quick cut storytelling. To keep the plot progressing at a locomotive?s pace, level objectives and small cut-scenes play out in-game as projections on the environments walls. (Think the location subtitles in the Fringe pilot or the credits in Spiderman.) Load screens too have been overhauled, concealed by cut-scenes narrated by Fisher, they introduce the player to upcoming stages by highlighting the stage's ledges, pipes and bits of architecture the super spy can use to his advantage. What's our take? Microsoft made a splash with its keynote announcement that Splinter Cell: Conviction will be exclusive to the 360. The game has serious potential, the stuff of flame war ammo when the fan boys argue over which console has what. As for Tom Clancy fans, the game looks to be worth the wait. |
